An Apple a day & Weight Loss

I love my apples...and we have all heard an apple a day keeps the doctor away!  Is it true? Does apples help you lose weight? Is there a difference between green apples and red apples?  After all I am from the midwest and it's apple season!  So let's get to the research I have found on apples and weight loss.

Let's first start with the doctor....the answer is YES... but, just eating an apple a day doesn't make everyone healthy.  Wow how simple would that be, the little juicy thing could be the answer to all our problems. Seems kind of silly now I actually typed that.  We all know on our healthy journey nothing is just that simple. There are many health benefits to the apple.

According to a study conducted by the Canadian government (not the orchard lobby), apples can add a huge, health-boosting antioxidant punch to anyone's diet. But not all apples are created equal, the study concludes. America's own Red Delicious apples were top of the antioxidant heap. Antioxidants are all in the skin, so if your eating apples for that reason don't peel them.

One apple contains 5 gram of fiber or 20% of your recommended daily amount, and 10% of Vitamin C. They are 65 calories and the health benefits in various studies are: prevent the growth of prostate cancer cells, Phytochemicals in the skin of an apple inhibited the reproduction of colon cancer cells by 43%, National Cancer Institute (USA) study: Flavonoid rich foods reduce the risk of lung cancer by 50%.

The difference between red and green apples on the topic of nutrition is very little, the difference is the time it takes to rot and bruise.

If you took all the Washington apples picked in a year and placed them side by side, they would circle the earth 12 times. Foodies eat your apples!!
