Commitment to lose weight?

What triggers a person to want, I mean really want to lose weight? When Will and I decided to take this journey of a lifestyle change seriously you couldn't get me off my soap box about weight watchers. I truly believed in what were set out to accomplish. I was ready, beyond ready!! I believe you have to be mentally ready first....no one can do it for you!!

With that said...what can get you mentally ready? A trip to the doctor and a diagnosis of type 2 diabetes or heart disease. Parents who cannot participate in family life. A desire to be able to play with your kids. Or negative experiences, such as trying to squeeze into an airline or movie theater seat, buying extra large-sized clothing, or no longer being able to wear your wedding ring. The psychological impact of feeling inferior because of size or any of the stigmas associated with overweight people can be powerful motivators to get down to a healthier weight. Find what motivates you!!!

When weakness sets in (and it will) remember what those motivators are and get your head back in the game. Every week when you weigh in anything, and I do mean anything with a minus in front is a great week. I remember the first holiday season I was on weight watchers I lost .2 every week from Thanksgiving to the 10th of January. It all added up!! One pound at a time YOU CAN DO IT!!

I think the most current motivator for me right now is the fact that all of my clothes are falling (yes, actually falling) off. I lost my "skinny" jeans walking down the hall today and had to squeeze my legs together to keep them up...it makes me want to lose more!!!

We returned home from Christmas vacation in January of 2010 and I got on the scale...I weighed 190 lbs!!! and at 5 ft 2 inches...that's a lot of weight! I had never been that heavy before...that was it! I know as we get older, it's harder and harder to get the weight off, so I said to myself...this is the year I'm losing this weight! My next door neighbor had lost over 100 lbs over two years on Weight Watchers...so I said, "sign me up". I am happy to report it took me about 10 months to shed 58 lbs..and I vow to change my attitude towards food and eat healthier into my old age...

I am so glad I found your blog! Everything I have read so far relates to me in one way or another. I am a Weight Watcher. It took me 3 years- but I lost 80 pounds. I still struggle with keeping it off. I am not comfortable in maintain mode. As soon as I get back to goal weight- I gain weight again. I am stuck in this cycle. I am finding it hard to find what motivates me to stay at goal. I am not at my rock bottom anymore. You are so right about finding what motivates you... I just have not figured that out yet. I look forward to reading your past posts! Maybe it will help me get to where I want to be.

I agree with Jill, I made goal a month before they changed to points plus and the adjustment is challanging. My father has diabetes and has already lost 2 toes. so I use that as my motivation to keep trying. I am maintaining now but about 8 lbs above my goal weight, I just need to get back down there and stay this time. I'll keep trying!! Thanks for sending me your link!

My motivation intially was to weigh less than my boyfriend. Once I passed that goal it was to be under 200 pounds. Now it's to be at 175, and no longer considered obese. There's something to be said for changing your goals as a way to keep up your motivation.
