The Scale - Weigh everyday or once a week?

This topic has controversy and fact...what works for you?  According to Weight Watchers you should only weigh in at their weekly meeting.  I personally weigh in every morning, it motivates me to stay on track.  Let's face it we all fall off the wagon occasionally when we eat out, and no restaurant makes it healthy as we do at home.  Jumping back on the scale is harder but I take my lumps and ride my bike longer the next day.  But, enough about me let's look at some facts....

The University of Minnesota researchers monitored the scale habits of 1,800 dieting adults, they found that those who weighed themselves daily lost an average of 12 pounds over 2 years; weekly scale watchers lost only 6. The once-a-day group also was less likely to regain weight loss.

Some people can benefit from the accountability brought on by daily weigh-ins. Potential advantages of daily weighing include recognition of slow patterns of weight gain that may not be immediately apparent and the chance to modify lifestyle habits before the total weight gain becomes extreme and difficult to control.  Not stepping on the scale doesn't change the fact you gained weight....When my cousin lived here (he lost 76lbs) we weighed in daily and talked about sodium, workouts and beef vs. fish prior to weighing in on Saturday mornings.  It does make a huge difference what you eat.  We never ate red meat or processed foods 48 hours before weighing in and we always lost.

Just because you're heavier today than yesterday doesn't mean your healthy lifestyle isn't working. Don't become a slave to the numbers.  Sodium isn't accounted for in weight watchers and it does matter.  As I have mentioned before my family history of High Blood Pressure..sodium does matter to me.

Don't forget....please don't weigh yourself at night!!  You WILL weigh more!! We eat & drink differently everyday!
